Places You Must Visit While In Barcelona
We have prepared a list of the most visited places in Barcelona. This list shows varied options and tries to cover all tastes. You can decide to follow your passion or try to do something new.
Barcelona will not disappoint you; on the contrary, you will end up making your list of all the places you need to visit in this magnificent city.
Sagrada Familia Basilica
The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família is located in the northern part of the city. It has 18 imposing towers that dominate its surroundings. It is considered an unconventional church because of its surrealistic Art Nouveau architecture that is still under construction.
Sagrada Familia Basilica is one the most famous pieces of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. He started its construction in 1883, but he didn’t finish it. Since 1926, other architects have contributed to the piece following Gaudí’s plan, but it is not finished yet. It is expected to be all done by the year 2026.
Although the Basilica is not completely built, you can visit the interior. There, you can see the awe-inspiring sacred space, the impressive artworks, and the opulent decorative details.
La Rambla
For location purposes, La Rambla is just a street in the city center. But it is not a simple street; it is the most famous street in Barcelona. It is a 1.2-kilometer pedestrian street where you can walk from Plaça de Catalunya to Port Vell.
La Rambla divides the Barri Gòtic to the east and the El Raval to the west. During daylight, you can enjoy restaurants, outdoor cafés, and the Mercat de la Boqueria. At nighttime, you will be entertained by live music, mime shows, or street performances.
Gothic Quarter
The Gothic Quarter or Barri Gòtic is the oldest neighborhood in Barcelona. It is considered the spiritual and secular center constituted by relics of ancient Roman buildings. You can take a peaceful stroll and visit the beautiful Catedral de la Santa Cruz and Santa Eulalia.
The squares are places you cannot miss. Sit there and be delighted by the familiar ambiance. Or, if you prefer, try the different restaurants and buy a gift in the quaint boutiques.
Barceloneta Beach
Barceloneta is the oldest beach in the city. It comprises four main beaches: the main beach of Barceloneta, Sant Sebastià, Sant Miquel, and Somorrostro.
If you like sunbathing, Barceloneta beach offers you 422 meters of sandy beach. You will have a complete adventure by visiting restaurants and bars. You will also relax, play volleyball, and do windsurfing, kitesurfing, and other activities.
Camp Nou
For football lovers it is unforgivable to go to Barcelona without visiting Camp Nou (Catalan for new field). Camp Nou is a stadium built for the 1992 Summer Olympics. Nowadays, it is known as the home arena of the FC Barcelona team.
It is the largest stadium in Europe and the second in the world with 98,000 seats. You will visit the locker rooms, walk through the tunnel; go to the stadium’s lounges, the bench, and the press room.
The main attraction is the FC Barcelona Museum. You can see photographs, trophies, and some personal items of the team players.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this round-up of must-see places in Barcelona to visit. If you get there before we do, be sure to share your photos! Until next time my friends, travel safe and happy!
