Let VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer and a bunch of hilarious new friends explain the entire Bible to your kids in this groundbreaking fast-paced and fun-filled DVD series. Includes TWO 25 minute episodes: God’s Perfect Timing – Buck Denver and crew learn about the 400 years between the Old and New Testaments and how Jesus arrives at just the perfect time & The Messiah Has Come! – Learn about the life and ministry of Jesus – how He died for us and rose again to launch the kingdom of God in the world and in us!
I had the opportunity to review Volume 10 of the series – Jesus is the Good News! Buck Denver and his friends begin with a bit of a history lesson and explain to us why there is a gap of 400 years between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Did you realize that? Do you know why that is?
At the time of the Old Testament, traveling was hard. There were no good roads, anyone who traveled usually was attacked by bandits, the roads were literally nothing more than muddy pathways, and everyone spoke a different language. There was no easy way to travel or communicate, making it really hard to spread a new idea around the world, don’t you think? Over the next 400 years though, all of that changed – in God’s perfect timing.
The Persian empire begins to take shape, and in Greece, Alexander the Great was born. He leads his armies across the known world, all the way to India, never losing a battle. Alexander’s army was tired, worn out, and wanted to go home. Alexander had spread the Greek language and culture throughout the known world, hence the language barrier was no longer an issue. People were all learning and speaking the same language. Over the next 200 years, the Roman empire came into power and the one thing that the Roman empire loved was building roads. They needed to be able to move soldiers around quickly to keep the peace, so long straight roads became the way of life, once again, in God’s perfect timing.
In the next episode on the DVD – The Messiah Has Come! – Buck and his friends listen as Phil tells the story of Jesus. In Jerusalem, the Jewish leaders did not agree on how to deal with these foreign leaders – the Romans. Some wanted to fight them, still others just wanted to “go with the flow” and keep the peace, so they began to split up into four different groups.
Buck’s friends explain the role of the four different groups – the Pharisees, Sadducees, Zealots, and the Essenes – and how they each play a part in the gospels and the story of Jesus. They explain that the Old Testament teaches us the promises of God, the New Testament is Jesus’ fulfillment of those promises made to the descendants of King David, Abraham, Moses and the Israelites all coming true.
Learn about Jesus and his disciples, the works that he did here on Earth, the Last Supper, and the eventual crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus and how it all ties together to show that The Messiah Has Come and through Him our sins are washed clean.
As Buck Denver himself says, “Wowzers.” Wowzers indeed, Buck, wowzers indeed.

These looked good and forgot they were on special around Thanksgiving. I'm glad they're on sale again. I love the whole series.
these look and sound really interesting in helping the young ones understand and a few other people I know who could benefit from watching these.. The only thing is everyone seems to have there own opinion how our God is and what he truly did.. Anyway thanks for share
I agree with you Dorothy – everyone has their own opinion (and is entitled to believe what they want) – but I know that I really enjoyed these DVDs and my kids did as well. They were in line with our beliefs, which is why I guess we enjoyed them so very much.
