Creamy Berry Ice Cream Made in a Food Processor or Blender

I have yet to meet someone who does not love some type of frozen treat on a hot summer day like ice cream or sherbert. With temperatures in the 90s this week, I think it’s about time we whip up some Creamy Berry Ice Cream in our food processor! I would like to thank Nancy from I MADE THIS DISH for another absolutely delicious recipe to share with our readers!

Got some over-riped bananas? Feel bad about throwing them away? Stick them in the freezer and we will make some delicious ice-cream! (** Note: The banana skin will turn black in the freezer. Don’t panic! It is expected this way.)

Imagine you are serving this easy and irresistible dessert during a romantic date night to impress your partner over candle lights … or simply when you feel super lazy to walk to the store and would rather stay home in your pajamas and eat this homemade ice-cream in front of the TV! 🙂

It is so quick and easy to make, like 1-2-3! No preservative, no unknown additives, no fancy unpronounceable ingredients!! (I promise) Just healthy, quick & easy- that what this dessert is all about!

The best part: It only requires 3 ingredients! (What? For real?) Yeap, that’s it! Also, you probably already have all ingredients on hand! Ok, so let’s get ice-creamed! (I don’t think this word exists in English. Anyways, I just totally made it up.)

You’ll Need:

  • 2 frozen riped bananas, peeled
  • 1 cup / 110 gr frozen mixed berries (or frozen strawberries, or frozen raspberries… your choice)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup, or regular syrup, or white sugar)

Tools You’ll Need:

  • Food processor or blender
  • Mixing spoon
  • Plastic container with a lid (used ice-cream container, used butter container, or Ziploc container)

Step 1:

Add bananas, berries and honey in a food processor (or a blender) and close the lid tightly. (You don’t want any unexpected facial splashes). Pulse every 5 seconds, until the mixture is well combined, approximately 4-5 minutes in total.

Tip:  After blending for 1 minute, open the lid and mix the mixture with a mixing spoon so it’s well combined. Close the lid and continue blending.

Variation:  Try fruits instead of berries. My all-time favourite is mango! OMG… it’s soooo good!

Step 2:

With a mixing spoon scoop the ice-cream mixture into a plastic container and close it with a lid. Store in the freezer for at least 4 hours or until you run out of patient and need to have this ice-cream now.

Step 3:

Before enjoying your ice-cream. Leave the container out to sit on the counter for 10 minutes.

Waited long enough? Okay then – let’s dig in and enjoy some ice cream!

What’s your favorite ice-cream flavor?

  2. These recipes for making ice creams and other goodies with fruit are great. Now, I have to get either a blender or a food processor so that I can make some of them!

    1. I was just chatting with Nancy today, Linda – she’s the Editor-In-Chief at I.MADE.THIS.DISH – and she said the banana and mango combination is out of this world. Since we plowed through the first batch – this is next on the list to make either Tuesday or Wednesday. I can’t wait!

  3. Okay my dear readers! I actually tried this super simple recipe to make some homemade ice cream with just three ingredients. Was I skeptical? Oh heck yeah! I mean – how do you make ice cream with no milk or cream thought this farm girl. But I was game to give it a go.

Remember that you need to freeze the fruit before making because you can’t get the correct consistency with fresh fruit. I forgot – had everything all cut up and in a bowl and ready to dump in the food processor. Something told me though to double-check the recipe because I was missing something or forgetting something – the frozen fruit part. So I just tossed it all in a freezer bag and put it in the freezer for about 3-4 hours.

Okay – ready for the food processor. Dumped everything in and started pulsing. Went beautifully and I ended up with a creamy strawberry goodness that I had to smack my teenager away from who was trying to hijack the bowl. I was able to fend him off with the empty food processor and the spatula to lick while I quickly put it in a container and popped it in the freezer.

We were “going” to have this after dinner last night but I got sidetracked, the teenager bailed with some friends, and my little guy had a wicked bad headache so we sort of forgot about it – till today.

My little guy has had 3 bowls so far, and I’ve had one. It is absolutely DELICIOUS and turned out EXACTLY like the recipe said it would! A very inexpensive cool treat for those hot summer days – and definitely something you will want to make sure you keep stocked in the freezer for the kids!

Here’s how mine turned out – deliciously yummy!
