Human Body Facts

I received this little gem in an e-mail from a friend in one of my Yahoo groups and I just had to pass it along with a few of my own comments thrown in for good measure!

The e-mail stated, “The human body is a machine that is full of wonder. This collection of human body facts will leave you wondering why in the heck we were designed the way we were.”

1. Scientists say the higher your I.Q. the more you dream.  (must be why I can’t remember dreaming a damn thing at night)

2. The largest cell in the human body is the female egg and the smallest is the male sperm.  (Well duh, I could have told you that.  Woman are far more superior than men!)

3. You use 200 muscles to take one step. (Well it only takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 muscles to smile so I’ll stick to frowning and smiling thank you very much!)

4. The average woman is 5” shorter than the average man.  (But our eggs rule!)

5. Your big toes have two bones each while the rest have three. (…and your point is?)

6. A pair of human feet contains 250,000 sweat glands.  (duh – that’s why we have Dr. Scholl!)

7. A full bladder is roughly the size of a soft ball.  (feels like one too!)

8. The acid in your stomach is strong enough to dissolve razor blades.  (Well no worries about eating Halloween candy with razor blades in it then, huh?)

9. The human brain cell can hold five times as much information as the Encyclopedia Britannica.  (I’ve met a couple of people whose Encyclopedia Britannica must have only been 5 pages long…)

10. It takes food seven seconds to get from your mouth to your stomach. (Tell that to my tummy when its growling and hungry!)

11. The average human dream last 2-3 seconds. (that must be why I don’t remember them – short attention span)

12. Men without hair on their chest are more likely to get cirrhosis of the liver than men with hair. (and you know this – why?)

13. At the moment of conception, you spent about half an hour as a single cell. (damn right…I got places to go, people to see, things to do!)

14. There is about one trillion bacteria on each of your feet. (um, most likely caused by the 250,000 sweat glands in your feet)

15. Your body gives off enough heat in 30 minutes to bring half a gallon of water to a boil. (my own internal Raid – keeps critters away who want to hog your side of the bed and push you to the very edge – till they get too hot!)

16. The enamel in your teeth is the hardest substance in your body. (well that leaves me out then!)

17. Your teeth start growing 6 months before you are born. (for the uneducated, about three months after you start cooking…)

18. When you are looking at someone you love, your pupils dilate, and they do the same when you are looking at someone you hate.  (Well how am I supposed to know if they love me or hate me then?  Not fair God.)

19. Your thumb is the same length as your nose.  (You know you just totally did this…)

At this very moment, I know full well you are putting this last fact to the test.  Now remove your thumb from your nose and go tell some friends to check this out!
