Hypersensitivity of any type can lead to dysfunction of mucous membrane of nose. This happens due to limited flow of air going through nasal passage. One of the most severe issues of this kind is allergic rhinitis. This condition is an inflammation of airwaves, during which your body is affected by one or more of the following symptoms: nasal congestion, watery secretion and sneezing, itching, nasal obstruction. You may suffer from additional, secondary symptoms such as throat irritation, headache, ear pain, facial pain, snoring and problem sleeping. Even though symptoms can be quite problematic, the disease is not life threatening. However, it can have a severely negative impact on your way of life.

Like any other allergy, there needs to be a trigger that leads to inflammation. When it comes to rhinitis, these allergens are dust, microorganisms, animal hair, plant pollen and air pollution. In the United States, between 10 to 30 percent of the population suffers from this condition, making it the 7th most common chronic disease i nthe US. Between 44 and 87 percent of people suffering from this disease have a mixed form of allergic and non-allergic rhinitis.

Oftentimes, people are suffering from non-allergic, non-infective rhinitis which is caused by different things, such as weather changes, cigarette smoke, food, drugs, change in air pressure, etc. Infective rhinitis is commonly caused by a viral infection. Bacterial rhinitis develops as a super infection caused by one or more of the previous mentioned states.

We live in an increasingly polluted environment. Because of this, your chances of developing a nasal problem is constantly increasing. At the same time, people are turning to chemical products for various purposes. Having this in mind, it shouldn’t surprise us that people have so many issues with breathing. In most of the cases, the problem can be solved by avoiding the allergens in question. We are able to completely avoid certain substances – such as animal hair, detergents and cigarette smoke. However, there is very little we can do when it comes to plant pollen and air pollution. Doctors from Doctor Medica recommend exposure to moist. Use of a humidifier, long showers, drinking a lot of water, can all contribute to improvement of a your symptoms.

Besides these natural treatments, you can also use Otrivin as a great way to reduce nasal congestion. The medicine works by reducing blood vessels, thus reducing the inflammation itself. As long as the drug remains within the body, you will experience free nasal passages that allow you to breathe normally. Otrivin comes in the form of a nasal spray and should not be used for more than 3 to 5 days. Continuous use of Otrivin can lead to tissue damage and chronic congestion. Again, you need to be careful to not use it more than 2 or 3 times per day.

There are different medical issues that could prevent you from using Otrivin. If you have kidney or liver issues, a history of heart disease or high blood pressure, diabetes, enlarged prostate, thyroid problems or glaucoma, you need to talk with your doctor before using this or any other drug. Side effects are usually connected to excessive use of the medication. If that is the case, you may experience rash, hives, nausea, nervousness, swelling of eyelids, wheezing, trouble breathing and sleeping, dizziness, headache, and blurred vision. As always, check with your doctor before beginning any new medication.

    1. I was hit with this condition – HARD – for the first time in my LIFE this year. I think I would rather deal with the flu (which goes away after a few days) then try and deal with this on an ongoing basis. I was sick for almost a month before I was finally able to get my symptoms under control and able to function like a normal person. It definitely opened my eyes to what other people suffer with once it hit me too! Gave empathy an entirely new meaning!!!
