Valentine’s Day – Love Is In The Air

I have a lot of friends who are single, who inevitably end up feeling a bit down in the dumps when Valentine’s Day rolls around. All the talk about romance, and sharing special moments with your loved ones. Especially when the last man you dated decided you should be the first one he “came out” to, or the one before that who was married with two children and dating three other women – besides you!

I might be in a relationship; however, I am a firm believer that Valentine’s Day should be about loving yourself. Loving your friends. Loving the world that you live in. If you have a significant other – then by all means, love them too! You cannot love others though until you love yourself.

Last year I celebrated Valentine’s Day doing exactly what I wanted – absolutely NOTHING. I took 24 hours to just pamper me, myself and I. I also sent out a Twitter Connect message asking about Valentine’s Day Experiences as well as Most Favorite Gift to Receive.

This year I’m doing the Twitter Connect once again! Leave a reply on the tweets below or leave a comment on this post and let us know what your plans are this year! You might just be featured in an upcoming article about the most unique and original ways to say “I love you!”

  1. You are absolutely right!  And we can't love anyone else if we don't love ourselves first!!  I am a firm believer in that.  We also should be showing people we love them all year round, not just holidays.

  2. This is a great post – short and sweet. It really makes me feel better about not having a significant other to spend Valentine's Day with. I should share my love with the people who are in my life right now! Thank you. =)

  3. That is so true about love yourself along your friends . I am so lucky too found a great man going too marry in May will be my first marriage at my age in my 50's

  4. Yeah, Valentine's Day is always a hard day for us single people, but then again you can just take the day and watch movies or go to a spa or get a single friend and just go out, why not right?

  5. This is great.  We try to celebrate but we can't afford much, so we usually stay in and just appreciate eachothers company.

  6. First I want to Say you are 100% right in your Quote " You Have To Love Yourself Before you can Love anyone Else!!  I don't really have a lot going on this year (That I know od anyway!) Lol!  Next month my Husband and I will be married 49 yrs. We were childhood Sweethearts. We have been together a Lifetime. I am Blessed we still are in Love! Thankyou for your Loving Post~

  7. happymelj  I think that's the best part of celebrating Valentine's Day – being able to say "no, sorry, I have plans" even if it is nothing more than some good takeout and a movie at home. I love having reached the point where I can just say no without feeling a mountain of guilt. I still have *some* but not as much as when I was younger!

  8. nikkibecker73  Absolutely right Nikki … and I think it takes a lot of women awhile to reach that point. We expect perfection of ourselves – something that we can never honestly obtain – and until we realize that we are perfect just the way that we are, it sets us up for quite a few disappointments.

  9. My son has a heart transplant, and my daughter had cancer at 7 so any holiday we can celebrate together we do. We love to have a great day of eating making new foods to try and just having fun!

  10. My bf and I just do the simple things. Just being together is enough for us.. i always make him something special! he also helped me to love myself.. he is amazing!!

  11. My plan is to sit on my couch, cuddled up with the furry little love of my life and enjoy some good takeout and a movie. A day to just relax and be entertained instead of having insane commitments.

  12. I so agree with this!! It took me a long time to say that I loved myself. You can't possibly love anyone else unless you love yourself first!!!

  13. conphident1 I stopped celebrating for almost 15 years. My mom passed away on Valentine's Day, and for all those years I did not celebrate my birthday or Valentine's Day. I just cried. Then I realized, my mom wouldn't want me sitting around being depressed – she loved life to the fullest and she would want the same for me … so I started celebrating again a few years back and do a little something in memory of her as well.

  14. SachaSchroeder Do something fun just for the two of you then Sacha when he's off work! I think couples should celebrate their love for each other every day not just one day a year.

  15. DebbieWelchert Well he most definitely is doing something right then Debbie lol! Mine usually forgets one or the other. My birthday is 2/11 and Valentine's Day is 2/14 … so if he forgets my birthday he makes up for it on Valentine's Day lmbo!

  16. My plans are what I do every year.  Nothing!  I married the most unromantic man in the world.  But he's doing something right, we have been married for 30 years now.

  17. KimAtLiahKarenAlbertWinslowlol no they are in their 70s & believe me they still put the younger ones to shame on the stage. i saw kiss the fall before & a few other younger groups & they had more energy. they do a ton of shows in hyde park london & they are packed. but i figured this was the last time they would be in the us so i paid a fortune to see them with my concert boy toy.  lol

  18. I don't have any plans. My boyfriend and I don't really celebrate Valentine's Day. Sometimes we do something sweet for one another. But, I like the idea of roses "Just Because", or a card "Just Because", not because he feels he HAS TO.

  19. marika200 That's usually a treat for us too – we rarely go out to eat … so special occasions are always a treat that include going out to eat someplace expensive lol!

  20. KarenAlbertWinslow (giggles) I'm surprised Mick and the rest of them are still be-bopping around stage. Keith Richards has to be what, about 100 by now? lmbo!!! Glad you enjoyed the show!

  21. KimAtLiahKarenAlbertWinslow  THANKS FOR THE HUGS. IT WILL GET BETTER.  HARD TO BELIEVE I WAS ROCKING AT THE STONES CONCERT IN MAY & SITTING ON MY BUTT IN JULY. WON SOME TICKETS FOR A MOVIE SO MY DAUGHTER WILL TAKE ME WHEN SHE GETS A BREAK FROM TAKING CARE OF AN ELDER & WORK. SO WE WILL HAVE AN AFTERNOON OUT SOON. RIGHT NOW IM SNOWED IN  LOL. BUT THANKS FOR WRITING BACK

  22. KarenAlbertWinslow Awh Karen, I'm so sorry to hear that you suffered a heart ailment – but very glad to hear you are recovering! You need to do something special for yourself – even if it is just something as simple as ordering dinner to be delivered or buying a movie that you have been wanting! I hope you plan on doing something special for yourself because you deserve to be loved! Sending hugs to you!

  23. I TOO AM ALONE SO I WILL DO WHAT I DO EVERY OTHER DAY OF THE WEKK SIT & WATCH TV & PLAY ON THE PUTOR. I AM RECOVERING FROM A HEART AILMENT.  HOW ABOUT THAT LOL

  24. he'll probably make me a card with my son and we'll go get sushi and I'll get him something from his Amazon wish list. and my son will get a craft with me and a board game. time well spent together.
