Focusing on Yourself and Your Happiness

What makes you happy? It’s a question that gets asked and people think they know, but in reality, no one is all that sure. There are things that we surround ourselves with like friends and family and pets and hobbies that make us happy, but you can always be happier, right?

Yes, you can. That’s not to say that the people in your life that make you happy aren’t doing a good enough job, far from it. But there are levels to happiness. To be socially happy, you need people to talk to when you’re feeling down. But what about when there’s no one around? People put too much stock in others to maintain their happiness, what they need to focus on is being happy in themselves.

The Physical

Everyone has an insecurity. You might think your skin is blotchy, or your nose too big, or your hair just won’t curl as you want. While these problems can be irritating, you manage, you find ways to combat them and then everything is all hunky dory.

But some of us still have a problem. It’s that little voice in the back of our minds proclaiming how obvious it is that you’re still not perfect. Well, it’s time for that small voice to be quiet. If you have insecurities about parts of you, such as having poor vision, there’s nothing wrong with researching an optometrist nearby to correct it. If it’s going to make you happier, then why not?

The Mental

We live in a time where we are stressed. We are stressed from in our careers, we are stressed in our personal lives. We are just a big ball of stress that is threatening to pop at any moment now.

When the stress or anxiety starts getting to you, it is vital to take a step back and consider what is important. The thing that gets a lot of people is seeing this pile of problems rising in front of them and feeling overwhelmed with the sheer volume of issues.

Instead, consider compartmentalizing each issue. You can start with the most significant problems or the smallest and work your way up (or down) at a pace that suits you. Understanding that each issue is its own individual problem will put it all in perspective, and give you the motivation to tackle all of them in time. And if you feel that the right way to tackle your mental health issues is to find good mental health treatment facilities, then that’s definitely the right way to go.

The Rest

There may be other things that you want to focus on to achieve the happiness you so deserve. Taking care of your physical and mental wellbeing is essential, as that will allow you to find happiness in other ways.

Once you are satisfied with how you look and how you feel, you can start exploring new experiences that can help build upon this established happiness. Find something you have always wanted to do and do it. Get back to your passions that were sunk by the stress of work. Whatever it is, with this newfound happiness, the world is yours.

People often avoid focusing on themselves to avoid looking selfish. Helping others is great, but not at the cost of your well-being. By focusing on yourself and the happiness you deserve, you will be able to help others in a more effective and substantial manner.
