Most of us are so busy that we don’t have enough time to spend with our family. We need to complete urgent tasks, run the household and take care of our family. However, spending time together is still the best way to show that we care about each other. Make it a point to have dinner together so that you can be a part of your family’s daily conversations and answer questions. You can go for a walk with your family as well. This makes it easier for kids to bring up difficult topics as they can focus on walking when they bring up these matters.
You can also leave a short message for your children to find. Reading together with your kids is one of the best ways to spend time together. Choose books together and share values and ideas with your kids. You can organize family holidays together to escape from daily distractions and experience new things. This is your chance to show off your cooking skills and prepare dishes that your family will love.
Bond Over a Cup of Coffee
You can start the day with a cup of coffee. Caffeine in coffee stimulates both mental and physical performance. You can drink coffee to overcome drowsiness, improve your alertness and start your day with enough energy. It will help you stay focused and concentrate better. After a heavy lunch, you can drink coffee to restore your alertness. It’s normal to feel sleepy after lunch, making it hard to sustain attention. A cup of coffee can get you back on track.
My youngest teenager still loves a good cup of hot cocoa in the morning, but my eldest son, Jon, loves a good cup of coffee in the morning. Strangely enough, it has the opposite effect on him in that it helps to keep him calm during the morning. Coffee is a stimulant, and stimulants have calming effects on the ADHD brain.
Irish Coffee Recipe
If the weather is cold, you can serve your family with a glass of Irish coffee. It’s a cocktail that consists of sugar, hot coffee and Irish whiskey topped with thick cream. It was invented in the 1940s when Joe Sheridan, a chef in the restaurant that catered to the passengers arriving at Foynes, created a drink that would warm up his guests. Foynes was one of the largest airports in Europe and regularly received travelers from the United States. When an American passenger asked if the drink was Brazilian coffee, Joe replied that it was Irish coffee. A lot of preparation variations exist today. Here’s an Irish coffee recipe that you can make at home.
- Brown sugar – 1 teaspoon
- Cream – 1 part
- Irish whiskey – 1 ½ parts
- Coffee – 4 parts
You just need to stir coffee, brown sugar and Irish whiskey in a wine glass and float cream. Some bars use cream that is sprayed from a can, while others lightly shake fresh cream to get a smooth layer on top of the coffee. Choose what you like and enjoy a cup of Irish coffee with your family! As always, drink responsibly and don’t serve alcoholic drinks to minors – common sense!
