Whether you were born in the USA or not, there are loads of destinations that should be added to your travel destination bucket list. To be honest, when considering this article, we really were spoiled for choices. However, we have picked out a few of our highlights, so when thinking about your bucket list, consider journeying to some of these places before you make that final journey into the great beyond!
New York
We have already considered New York on this site, so follow the link to our beginner’s guide to this great city. It’s one of the greatest cities in America, and is home to some of the most famous landmarks in the world. We are thinking the Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge, and lady liberty herself, the Statue of Liberty. Visit these landmarks, and consider some of the many attractions in the city. Go ice skating at the Rockefeller Center, go and see a Broadway show, picnic on Central Park, spend your day exploring the many things to do in Times Square, and then splurge your cash at Macy’s and Bloomingdales, NYC’s famous shopping outlets.
Los Angeles
One of the most popular cities to visit in California, there is something here for nearly everybody. With some of the best beaches in America, you can surf the waves, gaze at the bronzed gods who stroll up and down the beach district, and relax on the golden sands under the hot Californian sun. LA is brilliant for movie lovers too. While the Hollywood sign is an obvious landmark, you might also catch a glimpse of a celeb or two in one of the many filming locations around the city. You should also go on the Universal Studios tour, walk along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and take a moment to reflect on stars long gone at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. There’s more to LA than Hollywood, so shoppers should head to Rodeo Drive for some high-end shopping, party animals should head to Downtown LA to enjoy the glitz and glamour of the nightlife, and the National History Museum and the Getty Center are perfect if you’re looking for a bit of culture.
Orlando
Especially when travelling with your family, Orlando is one of the best places to visit in Florida. The place has some world-class theme parks for starters, so thrill seekers and entertainment lovers should definitely check out Disney World, Legoland, and the wizarding world of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando. Fans of all things aquatic should also check out Sea World, and the splashtastic theme park, Volcano Bay. Away from the rollercoasters, there are other attractions that won’t invoke feelings of sickness after a loop the loop, and these include Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, with it’s museum of weird and wonderful oddities, as well as Madame Tussauds, if you weren’t able to catch an eye of a celeb in LA. There’s also a lively nightlife for those of you travelling without kids, and tons of places to explore – we particularly recommend taking an airboat ride along one of Orlando’s swamps (watch out for the crocodiles).
San Francisco
One of the hippest places to visit in the USA, San Francisco is also one of the quirkiest and most magical (and that’s not just because of the city’s famed fog-enshrouded streets). Geographically small (compared to other US cities), there is still a heap of things to do. Walk hand in hand with your loved one over the Golden Gate Bridge, travel the city on a cable car, experience the hustle and bustle of Chinatown, and go shopping at Union Square. Of course, one of the most famous attractions in SF is The Rock, and we aren’t talking about Dwayne Johnson! Having made notable appearances in a number of movies (not you Dwayne), The Rock, more traditionally known as Alcatraz Prison, is a must-see place to visit if you ever wanted to visit this notorious fortress, famous because nobody has ever escaped from there. Don’t worry – the place no longer holds any prisoners, and you will be let out, provided you stick with the group and don’t get locked in after dark!
And There’s So Much More…
There is so much more for your USA bucket list, of course. Gamble in Las Vegas, visit the home of Elvis in Memphis, traverse the Grand Canyon, and satisfy your love for all things music in Nashville. So many things to do before you kick the bucket and so little time! We have only given you a taste, but if you ever you needed an excuse to explore the incredible diversity of the USA, we hope some of our ideas inspired you!
