What is the one thing that you are going to need if you want to spy on your neighbors? Give up?
Clean Windows!
You can’t very well spy on your neighbors without clean windows now can you? It isn’t uncommon to have stubborn streaks in your windows no matter how much “elbow grease” you put into cleaning them. Often windows can be an area of embarrassment for us in our homes when they refuse to reflect the effort we’ve put into cleaning. Here are 5 tips you can use to work smarter, not harder and have the cleanest windows in the neighborhood.
Get those cracks clean!
Using a toothbrush is a great way to get in those hard to reach spaces and eliminate that dirt and residue build up. The nylon bristles on a toothbrush are tough and durable and the handle will allow you to have control and apply pressure to those dirty crevices. Having a clean window frame is a great first step in improving the overall appearance of your windows. Certain materials like fiberglass are much easier to clean than solid wood, keep this in mind when you’re ready for replacement windows.
Make your own cleaning solution
Often times window cleaners from the store are harsh and dangerous to the environment. You can create your own solution that can be more efficient and more cost effective. Create a safe homemade cleaner that is known to work using equal parts tap water and distilled vinegar. This mixture has been known to leave windows streak free. If the windows are super grimy don’t be afraid to use some castile soap as well.
No more paper towels
Paper towels are not only less cost efficient than microfiber they are also less effective when it comes to window cleaning. Paper towels are known to break down and leave lint behind. Microfiber will be more affordable since its reusable and will make sure the lint is removed, leaving you windows with a shiny, streak free look! Who could disagree with saving money while having cleaner windows?
Invest in a squeegee
Get yourself a squeegee! If you have absolutely had enough with streaks and residue, a squeegee is the way to go. Rubber bladed squeegees will make sure to remove excess soap and water, leaving a streak free shine every time. Simply soap up those windows with your favorite window cleaner and in one swipe say goodbye to stubborn streaks. On a second note, your kids may join into help since squeegees have much cooler appearance than ordinary paper towels.
Use a mop for the top!
We can’t all be Yao Ming, for normal sized people cleaning the top of your windows can be an absolute hassle. Use a mop with a microfiber rag around it or use the pole with a squeegee attached to get those hard to reach places that you wouldn’t be able to get to otherwise.
These 5 tips will help you save money, time and the environment. Now you have absolutely no reason not to have the cleanest windows in the neighborhood! These techniques will keep your neighbors guessing and your windows shining.
