Why Clothes Make a Great Gift

Buying clothes for a loved one is always a bit of a gamble. Do you go for something glamorous and that they may never have thought of buying for themselves or do you go for a wardrobe staple that you know they’ll love but it is hardly adventurous?

In this blog, we take a look at three ways to choose clothes as a gift and how you can make it a success every time.

Get Size Perfect

No matter what you choose, whether it’s right up their street or wide of the mark, if it’s the wrong size it’s an automatic fail.

There aren’t many easy ways to get a hold of your loved one’s digits, even less when you’re hoping to buy lingerie. Standing over them with a tape measure is a dead giveaway. Instead, you’re going to have to take a look at the size of their most recently bought item and go from there. You’ll need to bear in mind that sizes do tend to vary from shop to shop, though underwear should remain fairly standard.

If in doubt size up rather than down as it may be possible to take a dress or skirt in if too large.

Go on Evidence

While it might be tempting to go for something completely different to their usual style, we would advise not to unless they have specifically said it’s something they want.

Instead, opt for something you know they’re really going to like and base that on the evidence you’ve seen with your own eyes. If you know they love long sweaters, then something like this popcorn cardigan could be exactly what you’re looking for. A little different but in safe colors and a length that you know will get the seal of approval.

Can’t Decide? Accessorise

If it’s all going wrong and you can’t seem to find anything that fits the bill then go for the accessories instead. Think of a favorite outfit you’ve seen them in and imagine what kind of jewelry would go really well with that outfit. It might be that you’ve seen the perfect bag to go with their favorite shoes or a watch that would set off their workwear a treat.

Don’t be afraid to go large with the accessories if finding an outfit has proved a thankless task.

At the end of the day you know your loved one best and you know if they’re likely to appreciate your efforts to get them some clothing. Get it right and you’ll not only demonstrate your great taste but you’ll show just how well you know them. Get it wrong and expect the exact opposite.

It is worth taking a chance on clothes but make sure to have the receipt to hand should you call it wrong or get the wrong size. If it feels safer go for some accessories that will let your loved one know you’ve put in the effort and thought about exactly what they need to make that outfit pop.
