When it comes to defining beauty, you’ve probably heard things like “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, “beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors”, and “true beauty comes from within.”
Though these statements are true, it doesn’t stop you from wondering where it all went as you get older. From gray hairs and wrinkles to sagging breasts and a growing waistline, when you look in the mirror, you simply don’t feel as attractive as you used to. Not to mention, society often portrays beauty as being someone with a slim physique, muscular tone, youthful skin, and long, thick tresses. All of which I lost somewhere between the ages of 40 and 50, ha!
Aging is a natural part of life. The physical changes you’re experiencing are essentially a result of the body process slowing down. You may not be able to do anything about the natural progression of aging, but there are things you can do to age gracefully and feel good about it along the way. Below are some suggestions to try.
Beauty Treatments and Surgeries
If the signs of aging have already started or there are things about your physical appearance that make you feel unsure of yourself, there are tons of beauty treatments and surgeries you can consider. For example, a woman in her 50s with excessive face wrinkles or sagging skin might consider botox or a facelift to take years off her face. Another circumstance might be someone who’s been dieting and exercising but can’t seem to get rid of stubborn belly fat. They may opt to try cool sculpting to get rid of the excess fat. This is definitely something that is on my radar if the Keto diet doesn’t work out!
If beauty treatments or cosmetic surgeries are something you’re interested in, just be sure you’ve done your due diligence. You should educate yourself on everything from how much it’s going to cost and the risks involved in how the surgery works and the recovery process. Also, be sure to consult a reputable medical expert to complete the beauty treatments or surgeries to ensure the safest and most effective outcome.
Protect Yourself From the Sun
As great as the sun’s rays might feel on your skin, too much exposure can rapidly increase the signs of aging. If you want to feel beautiful at any age, it is imperative to wear proper protection. This includes wearing sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen. This isn’t something you just do in the summer either, as the sun is out all year round, it is imperative to protect yourself accordingly.
Stay Hydrated
Chances are water isn’t your favorite beverage, but it can do wonders for your looks. On a regular basis, you’re exposed to many different toxins, chemicals, and pollutants. If these harmful substances remain present in the body for too long, it can start to cause complications ranging from skin issues to life-threatening illnesses. Drinking at least 8 cups of water each day slows down the aging process and enhances your beauty from the inside out.
Make Time for Exercise
Staying active can greatly improve the way you look and feel. For starters, when engaged in strenuous activities that get your heart pumping and your body sweating is ideal for helping to flush toxins from the body. Regular physical activity also helps to build stronger bones and muscles, manage your weight and improve your mood. When you start exercising regularly and see/feel all of these changes it ultimately boosts your self-confidence making you feel young and more attractive.
Eat a Well-Balanced Diet
Many of the foods consumed today aren’t good for your health. When your diet consists of mostly processed or genetically modified foods packed with bad ingredients like refined sugar, salt, and fat, your body ages faster. If the goal is to look your best at any age, you’ll need to incorporate more foods that provide essential vitamins, nutrients, and minerals the body needs to keep functioning properly.
Reducing your consumption of processed foods and eating more whole organic foods, fruits, vegetables, lean meats, beans, nuts, and low-fat dairy is highly recommended to enhance your looks and slow the natural aging process.
Change Your Mindset
Making healthy lifestyle changes like exercising and dieting is great for improving how you look and feel at any age. However, that can only take you so far. If you really want to feel good about the way you look it is imperative that you change your mindset. Learn to find beauty in every stage of your life.
Changing your mindset won’t be easy, but it’s not impossible. Try things like saying positive affirmations every day, stop comparing yourself to others, buying clothes that flatter your figure, focusing on your positive features, and learn how to accept compliments from others. With time, you’ll begin to see that you truly are a beautiful person.
Though getting older is something everyone hopes to do, the idea of looking and feeling older simply doesn’t sit well. While you’ll never again be your 20 or 30-year-old self, that doesn’t mean there isn’t beauty in who you are and how you look today. To feel beautiful at any age, consider safe solutions to change what you cannot, adopt healthy lifestyle habits to slow down the signs of aging, and work daily at improving your self-confidence. In doing all of these things, you’ll absolutely love who you see every time you pass a mirror.
