While you may dread the thought of do-it-yourself home projects, there are some things that you can do to make your home feel new without too much hassle. So, if you’re looking to give your home a little facelift, try some of these this weekend and watch your home transform before your very eyes.

And don’t forget to check out different websites for inspiration (Plum Goose has it in abundance!) so you can find out exactly what look you want to adopt in your home.

Try New Lights

One of the easiest things you can do to give your home a new look is to change the light bulbs and fixtures throughout. Not only is this a fairly cheap way to get a fresh look but it can be quick and easy too.

If you still like the fixtures in your home, why don’t you try switching to a different style of light bulb? So rather than using the same old bulbs that you can find in any convenience store, try a store that specializes in lighting and look around. There are many different styles, colors and other options to choose from, providing you with something that will fit into your home with ease.

However, if you want a more dramatic change, you could try changing the fixtures as well. There are so many models out here, from pendulums and pendants to chandeliers and recessed lighting — even track lighting if you want to go a little retro. Shop around for inspiration and see what captures your attention and you could have a different look by Monday morning!

Switch Up the Bedding

Another quick and simple thing you can do is to change the bedding styles in all of the bedrooms, either to match or complement each other. This will take less than an afternoon to do and can really change the look and feel of your rooms.

Find the common themes throughout each room and use these to get an idea for new sheets, pillowcases and cushions that can accent the room. For example, if the room is blue, find bedding that has just a small amount of the same shade (in patterns with thin lines, small prints, etc.) to complement the walls. If the walls are patterned, try to find solid colors that can off-set these more vibrant designs.

You can also look for new headboards, bed skirts and maybe even some netting to spruce up the bedroom and add a different element to it.

New Furnishings

New furnishings can be expensive but there really is nothing better for changing the personality of a room than a new dresser or entertainment center.

Purchasing a new dresser set in a different color or style than you’re used to will stand out dramatically. Bookcases are another great way to add a focal piece to any room while giving you extra storage space at the same time. Equally, a new kitchen table, a set of chairs in the foyer or a brand new television stand can make any room feel like new again.

But don’t just stop at large pieces. Small accent tables, ottomans or a new set of bar stools will add a newness that you and your family (or potential buyers!) will enjoy.

Use Plants

Placing fresh new plants around your house will give your home a natural feel and will help to bring the outside in. And the good news is, you don’t have to stick with the ferns and ficus that your grandparents had!

There are many fruiting trees that you can grow in your own home, including figs, lemons and limes. Even olives are hardy enough to be grown indoors if you are willing to take care of them properly! And what could be more exciting that picking the fruit for a recipe without even having to go outside?

Decorative plants can add style as well and should be placed in areas that let in natural light. There are plenty of tough plants that are grown for indoor use, so ask your nearest nursery and see what you can find or check out this great article that gives you 17 of the best bathroom plants!

Don’t worry about spending weeks updating your home and try out one of these simple projects this weekend.
