Spending the festive period with the ones we love has to be the best part of the year. Most of us spend the entire year looking forward to Christmas cheer and being able to spend our time with those we love the most.
Although the current global situation might make our prospects look bleak – it is very possible that we will at least be able to see our family at Christmas.
If you are looking forward to seeing your grandkids this Christmas and enjoy their company – we have a ton of fun festive activities you can enjoy with them.
Christmas Crafts
One of the more messy things you can do with the grandkids at Christmas time is decorate Christmas baubles and other decorations. Christmas crafts can involve lots of sequins and glitter as well as feathers and pipe cleaners- and it will be a great way to spend an afternoon.
Sing Along to Festive Songs
What could be better than running around the house belting out Christmas songs? Now that you are older and you might have a need for ITE hearing aids; you will have the perfect excuse to turn the volume right up on your favorite festive CDs and play the classic Christmas tunes you love. You can even get the kids to put on a performance for you and show off their singing skills.
Decorate a Christmas Tree
Decorating the house for Christmas is always the most exciting part of the build-up to the big day, and you can make it even more special by decorating the tree with your grandkids. They might not be the neatest of tree decorators – but they will love spending time with you while they show off their creative side.
Bake Yummy Treats
One of the best things about the Christmas season is all of the sweet treats you are able to make for your family, and younger grandkids can learn to make simple treats with you this weekend. Shortbread biscuits for example are super easy to make with:
- 1 cup (150 grams) of flour
- 1/2 cup (100 grams) of butter
- 1/4 cup (50 grams) of sugar
Simply mix flour and butter together with your fingers to form a crumb consistency, and then add sugar and mix, press into a dough and cut cookies. Sprinkle some sugar on top and bake at 356°F (180°C) for 15 minutes.
Mince pies can also be a fun recipe to make and making your own pastry isn’t that difficult to do.
Play Charades
Charades is a classic Christmas time game and one which is fun for the whole family. If you struggle with quizzes and get a little too competitive with monopoly – charades is a good game to enjoy with the grandkids and you can get silly with the actions you do to get a good laugh!
Enjoy a Cozy Movie Night
One amazing way to spend a cosy Christmas evening with your grandkids is a movie night. The holidays are not the holidays until our family has seen It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, and Miracle on 34th Street. Settle down with some hot cocoa and fresh cookies under a warm blanket for a relaxed evening that will have all of us believing in the magic of Christmas and in a festive mood once again!
