I am honored to be an ambassador of the #GivingTuesday program this year, and I would love for YOU to join us as well!
What is #GivingTuesday?
#GivingTuesday is a movement that began last year in an effort to give everyone time to pause and to consider what is most important during the holiday season. A time for us to focus on teaching our children the importance of philanthropy and how giving back can help not just one or two individuals, but an entire community.
We have Black Friday the day after Thanksgiving, and then CyberMonday the first Monday following Thanksgiving, and now let’s aim to put a new date on the national calendar – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving that focuses on what is most important – Giving Back.
#GivingTuesday 2012
Last year, the first year of #GivingTuesday, more than 2,500 organizations came together and became #GivingTuesday partners in all 50 states, and involved charities reported increases in donations received on #GivingTuesday. (How awesome is THAT?) This year is even BIGGER with more than 3,000 partners already! Last year over 1,000 digital influencers (bloggers and social media mavens just like you and I) helped to spread the message!
