Professional Tips on Cleaning Carpet Stains

As a homeowner, it is almost certain you’ll run into various problems from time to time. Each of these problems can prove to be very frightening and detrimental. Of course, nothing is worse than finding a big wine stain on your carpet. When this happens, you’ll need to implement the most thorough and effective carpet cleaning technique immediately. Below, you will be provided with cleaning tips from professional carpet cleaners.

Weekly Carpet Cleaning

If your home has a lot of carpet, you will need to take extra steps to keep your carpets cleaned. In fact, you should try to follow a strict weekly cleaning protocol. Carpet has a long lifespan, but you can extend its longevity even further by cleaning your carpets at least once a week. Frequent vacuuming will be able to greatly extend the lifespan of your carpets, while also helping to eliminate potential buildup of dirt and debris. Every so often, you should also get around cracks and corners with a crevice tool.

Dividing Up Your Carpets

Professional home carpet cleaners can provide you with a wealth of information and insight. By listening to a professional carpet cleaner, you will be able to learn tricks for cleaning your carpets thoroughly and more efficiently. One of the most beneficial tips you will learn from professional carpet cleaners is to divide up your carpet, before starting the cleaning process. This is absolutely pertinent, if your home is fitted with carpet from wall-to-wall.

Divide the carpeted area into smaller square or quadrants. Clean each small square at a time. This nifty professional carpet cleaning trick will allow you to clean the entire carpet, without needing to step on the areas that have been cleaned beforehand.

Invest In A Pair Of Shoe Covers

If you hire one of the local carpet cleaning services, it is almost certain that the professional will enter your home wearing covers on their shoes. The covers will closely resemble something that surgeon or doctor would wear. While they might seem odd at first, shoe covers can be enormously beneficial for professional carpet cleaners. If you intend to perform your own carpet cleaning, you should follow in their footsteps and invest in several sets of shoe covers.

This will effectively transform you into a professional carpet cleaner and allow you to clean your carpets, without needing to take off your shoes or socks. Shoe covers can be used several times, before they’ll need to be replaced.

Never Scrub Stains

Stained carpet will be one of the most difficult problems you will ever face. Many people will immediately freak out and begin scrubbing the stained area with all of their might. This will prove to be a major mistake. Scrubbing the stain will usually only make it worse. Before you use a great deal of energy, it is absolutely pertinent to try and blot the stain. Absorb as much of the liquid as possible first. Professional carpet cleaners will tell you that scrubbing will only cause the liquid to spread and sink deeper into the carpet.

After you’ve absorbed the liquid as much as possible, you should try using a commercial carpet cleaner product. Use a little bit of force and see whether or not the stain can be removed on your own. If the stain doesn’t budge, you may need to make contact with the best carpet cleaner in your area.

Urine Removal Tips

A lot of homeowners are also pet parents. And, you should realize how difficult it is to force your dog to stay outside all day and night. Even if you’ve trained your dog to use the bathroom outside, there is a possibility that you’ll experience a problem at some point or another. Dog urine can be very detrimental to your carpets. It smells terrible and can create a terrible stain. A professional carpet steam cleaner will be able to remove the stain fairly easily, but you can always try to do it yourself first. Before paying for a stain removal service, you should try absorbing the urine with a cloth or paper towel.

For this step of the carpet stain removal, you will want to use a white cloth. Dyes could easily spread to the carpet. Once you’ve soaked up as much of the urine as possible, you should clean the impacted area with a combination of white vinegar and water. After this is done, you should use a non-bleach detergent and water to finish it off. Again, if you’re unable to fix the problem on your own, you should hire the best carpet cleaner you can find!

There are specific carpet cleaning services that are designed precisely for this problem, but you can always to finding a rectification on your own, before handing over your money. Gum is tricky, because it is sticky and will attach itself to your carpet’s fibers. To fix this problem, you should grab a piece of ice and hold it to the gum. This will freeze the gum and make it somewhat easier to remove.

Once the gum is frozen, you should be able to break it with a blunt object. Then, simply use a vacuum cleaner to remove the remaining remnants. A professional carpet steam cleaner will be able to remove bubble gum within a few minutes. If you’re unable to find a reliable fix for the problem, you should not hesitate to pay for carpet cleaning services.

Tips for Removing Dirt Or Mud

Dirt and mud is one of the most common problems a professional carpet cleaning company will deal with. The good news is that this type of carpet stain removal will be much easier than the rest. Before calling a professional carpet steam cleaner, you should first try a few homemade remedies on your own. First, allow the mud to dry. Never scrub the mud when it is wet, as this will only cause the dirt to sink deeper and spread wider. Once the mud is dry, the carpet stain removal should begin. 1. I totally agree Dotty! I got lax with the shoes off at the door rule as the kids got older – *thinking* that they would learn and use common sense when they got older that if they stepped in mud or something they would take their shoes off when they came in the house lol! After the last rain storm though – Jonathan and a bunch of his friends tracked mud all through the house from the front door to his bedroom so yup – SHOES OFF AT THE DOOR again!

  2. My house is mostly hardwood but my childhood home was all carpet. My parents could have benefited from your tips!

  3. Ugh, as much as I like the soft feel of carpet, they are quite difficult to take care of. These are some great tips. I have all hardwood right now, and rugs by the couch and bed, but I can use these techniques for the rugs.

  4. Dog urine may be bad but cats are just as bad. In addition, Cats often barf. I’ve had cats for years and have had to clean my carpets a lot of times. Thanks for the tips.

    1. Molly does that as well Mary – if she eats too fast she ends up barfing all over the place and eww is that NASTY! I think cat urine is worse than dog urine (as far as the smell goes) … and especially if you have a male cat who’s marking his territory … yeah, that can be a mess!
