Spring Fashion 2014 – Musings From a Jeans and T-Shirt Mom

I am not your typical fashion blogger, I’ll say that right up front. I do, however, know what I like when it comes to fashion and I’ve checked out the spring fashion 2014 trends. What I like personally does not always coincide with what the fashion industry is predicting the upcoming season trends to be. I’ve seen several must-have items and I’ve also seen some that are absolutely retched.

On a side note: The weatherman is predicting a wonderful 3″ to 6″ of the fluffy white stuff to descend upon our fair city tomorrow – so I’m sure I will be trapped indoors with the testosterone carriers and be ready for the first flight out of town within 30 minutes of their waking up. What better way to escape the cold and the testosterone than by envisioning a bit of springtime fashion fun?

You do not have to spend a fortune on your wardrobe if you shop smart. The key point when it comes to fashion is to buy a few essential pieces that you can build upon, interchange with other pieces, and create an entirely new look from with a few exceptional accessories such as shoes, jewelry and, naturally, purses.

I love my black. Black hides a multitude of sins, and goes with ANYTHING. You can add a pop of color to it, pair it with something white, accessorize it and you’ve got an instantly fabulous outfit. If you peek in my closet, all of my slacks (except for one pair of red slacks and one pair of navy blue slacks) are black. I add my pop of color with different tops or a scarf or go with a white top and chunky jewelry with pops of color depending on my mood.

I don’t know of many women who do not have at least three or four different styles of purses in their wardrobe to interchange with their outfits or to have for a night out on the town, or a Sunday brunch with the girls. Every event dictates the outfit. I believe that you can never go wrong with a little black bag though!

This season the lady-like dresses and A-line skirts, the tailored classics with a touch of bold and edgy thrown in the mix are back in season. Black and white is in again for another year, with the usual pastels and pops of red and yellow bringing out the funky fun in all of us.

Geometric and kaleidoscope looks are in (in black and white naturally) and a huge hit in the jeans department as shown in the Diesel Black Gold Spring Summer 2014 collection below:

I have never been “brave” enough to buy white jeans. I’m a black or denim jeans gal, but I am loving the shoes and the purses for spring and the myriad of possibilities that they give you for changing up an outfit! I found some really funky shoes at Proenza Schouler that I absolutely fell in love with. Check these out:

Are they not the most adorable shoes ever? I might kill myself getting used to walking in them, but I’d look frigging HOT doing it! I absolutely love them!

I fell in love with a few bags that Proenza Schouler has as well. I’ll tell you up front, their bags are a bit on the high-end of the spectrum, but the quality and workmanship make them worth every penny. These are just a few of my favorites from their Spring and Summer collection:

Don’t you just love, love, love that beautiful purple leather? That is one bag that is totally on this fashionista-wannabe’s list!

My point is this – whether you have a ton of money to spend on your wardrobe or just a few dollars here and there – remember to buy QUALITY, buy CLASSIC, buy TAILORED items that make you feel beautiful, fit you well, and showcase your personality. Spend a little extra for those quality accessories that will last season after season, and in no time at all, you’ll have a wardrobe that any fashionista would be proud to call her own!
