Today was the big winter concert for the 2nd graders at Mechanicsville Elementary School. Naturally we all overslept this morning and the Demon Squad didn’t want to get out of their nice warm beds and brave the 17 degree temperatures outside . . . that is until I told Tre if he didn’t go to school, he couldn’t go to the concert tonight.
That had him up and out of bed in a flash!
It was a beautiful concert and their final song of the evening, The Best Gift of All, brought tears to my eyes because of our situation this year. That little face up on stage locked on mine, and I swear he was singing to nobody but me – his eyes never left my face. By the time they finished the song I had tears streaming down my face. (I know, I am such an embarrassment to my children in public…)
The Best Gift of All
The best gift of all doesn’t come wrapped in paper.
The best gift of all doesn’t cost anything.
The best gift of all doesn’t glitter or sparkle.
It’s not tied with brightly colored ribbon or string.
The best gift of all comes from the heart.
It’s a song that you share or a smile that you start.
It’s the love that you give, the way that you live.
Yes, the best gift of all is a gift from the heart.
The best gift of all doesn’t come to your doorstep.
The best gift of all isn’t bright red or green.
The best gift of all can’t be found in a window.
You won’t see its picture in a magazine.
The best gift of all comes from the heart.
It’s a song that you share or a smile that you start.
It’s the love that you give, the way that you live.
Yes, the best gift of all is a gift from the heart.
It’s the love that you give, the way that you live.
Yes, the best gift of all,
The best gift of all is a gift from the heart, from the heart.
Yes, the best gift of all.
You gave me HOPE. You gave me LOVE. You gave me a SMILE again.
